44 Days of Faith and Valor

Updated: Feb 17, 2023

Leadership is one of the most critical skills a person can possess in today's fast-paced and constantly changing world. It is the cornerstone of success in all spheres of life, not just in business. A leader has the ability to inspire, encourage, and direct a team toward a common objective. The most effective leaders are those who are aware of the value of influence and know how to harness it for the benefit of their followers.

The “44 Days of Faith and Valor” by PLTGEN CESAR HAWTHORNE R BINAG explores the essence of what makes a great leader and offers insightful advice, suggestions, and methods for aspiring leaders to hone their abilities. This book examines the essential characteristics of a good leader and how to develop them within oneself. Additionally, it addresses crucial subjects including effective teamwork, team building, and overcoming difficulties.

On Day 19 of the book creatively entitled “FRONT SIGHT! CORRECT YOUR AIM!” It tells us the importance of having instructors guiding us during shooting drills. Calming us so we can easily execute our shooting with their loud shouting voices. Listening to corrections and advice is for our own good. We mistakenly believe that we have the choice of listening or not, yet we do not. Regardless of whether the advice, criticism, or correction is sound, we must force ourselves to pay attention to it. Why? We can learn from them, so why not? We must pause and question whether what they are saying is accurate. We must fight the urge to defend ourselves and launch an immediate counterattack.

King Solomon from the bible named the wisest man who ever lived tells us that we should “Listen to advice and accept discipline, and at the end you will be counted among the wise.”—Proverbs 19:20. [1] And this warning resonates with these lines from Proverbs 15:32 “Those who disregard discipline despise themselves, but the one who heeds correction gains understanding.”[2]

A critical component of leadership development and progress is learning to accept errors and criticism. Competent leaders are aware of their shortcomings and that they can always do better. They are receptive to criticism and ready to hear different viewpoints, even if they are challenging. They can then seek to solve any areas that need improvement as a result.

Critics and corrections provide vital insights regarding the leader's strengths and flaws. Here in the Academy, we are encouraged to make mistakes, stumble down or roll-over all in purpose of learning from those mistakes. We are honed by our mistakes, our lessons learned so that by the time we are on our own we will make the right decisions. Critics and corrections provide leaders a chance to think back on their decisions and make adjustments that will make them a better leader. Accepting criticism also demonstrates a leader's approachability, humility, and openness to listening. This can then result in more people respecting and trusting the leader, as well as more fruitful and cooperative relationships.

Overall, it is a must-read for anyone wishing to strengthen their leadership qualities and make a great effect in their personal and professional lives.
